Obama and Ted’s Universal Health Care - Change we can Live with?

I’m happy that Senator Kennedy’s health appears to be improving with the treatment he’s receiving. I wish him many more productive and healthy years.
It’s really quite wonderful, when you give it a bit of thought that such potentially devastating diseases can be controlled and even beaten, within our own health care system without the necessity of a trip to Cuba or Canada or the UK (Micheal Moore not withstanding).
So, why do Obama and the senator want a Congress - which Americans rate at 9 percent on a scale of 100 - to be in charge of setting up and defining our health care? (My emphasis added)
Grace Paterson’s late husband Alan saw his doctor in January, complaining of a lump in his neck. The lump appeared to be related to the thyroid gland and was so large that it was displacing his trachea. Doctors recognized the urgency of his condition and said “We will get you to surgery, for a biopsy, as soon as possible.” Several months later Mr. Paterson called to ask for a biopsy date and was told he must wait even longer. Finally, in August, Mr. Paterson complained of difficult breathing and was admitted to hospital because the thyroid mass was obstructing his windpipe. Alan Paterson died a few days after being admitted to hospital.
Here’s a video testimonial from Paterson, originally published on BigGovHealth.org.

Did you see the Bunk study stating 2/3 of doctors in America want National Health Care. The doctors who did this study also conducted one in 2002 and found that the majority of doctors did not want national health care, the problem with this is that the 2 question surveys drastically differ in there 2nd question. I found this article, 60% of Physicians Surveyed Oppose Switching to a National Health Care Plan, It’s worth a read.
@Matt:
I hadn’t seen those surveys, but did take a look. Interesting. I’d say not comparable nor reliably indicative of a ground swell of national approval.
Survey samples are very small. The survey question (2) relating to single payer system (government paid) which generated 60% opposition in 2003 sampling, not repeated in 2008 sampling and the question replacing it conveys ( to me ) that 55% of the sample support -incremental changes to effect more universal coverage. That doesn’ t sound like a rush to a National Health care, government operated system.
I think everyone wants the obvious flaws in our current system corrected and soon, but jumping into a clone of the Canadian or similar system with congressional fingers stuck in it, I find very unappealing.
