CNN does some selective editing

August 8, 2008

More media bias. Confederate Yankee gives us the scoop on some creative editing by writers at CNN. Raymond Hunter Geisel recently threatened the president and presidential candidate Barack Obama. He said the comments in front of witnesses and got turned in.

The Associated Press story mentions that both Obama and G.W. Bush were mentioned in the threats, but the edited CNN story left out the reference to Geisel wanting to put a bullet in the current president’s head. Read more

Energy myths – battling for better energy choices and lower prices

August 7, 2008

The phrase “drill here, drill now, pay less” has become a popular in the past few weeks. Sure, if we open up exploration now, it will take some time for the oil to actually start flowing, but just a commitment to drill here and drill now will lower the price of fuel immediately. We know this as fact.

Jim Vicevich – radio host at WTIC 1080 in Hartford – just started updating his blog again and posted a few good links. If you’re up to arguing the point with those who think windmills are the answer, Vicevich provides a link over to Investor’s Business Daily (IBD) and an editorial entitled Energy Myths. Read more

Hypocrisy on parade – AlGore’s house boat on display

August 6, 2008

Noble Peace Prize winner AlGore continues his assault on common sense. He likes to travel from city to city and preach that the earth as a fever and we must do something now. Planetary emergency aside, AlGore has been trapped yet again by regular folk that are sick of his proselytizing.

House boats are huge in the south. You might say that it is a status symbol to have one, but boats of this size are more than commonplace on the region’s lakes. House boats are just that – a second home for those in the area. The Gore family has a new house boat – named Bio-Solar One – which runs on bio-desiel and solar energy.

As of this morning, the solar panels have not been installed and the boat is supposedly a new purchase. I’m not going to slam him for that; but what the heck is this guy’s carbon footprint now? Is he so important – and his message so critical – that he can live the high life of extreme excess and not be criticized by anyone? Read more

Conservative247 switching to AP “down” style for headlines

August 5, 2008

For print headlines, the Associated Press (AP), Wikinews and Wikipedia suggest “down” style for headlines which means that only the first word and proper nouns are capitalized.

As an alternative, the “up” style capitalizes every word except those with fewer than four letters and looks kind of weird to me. AP is fine with this for online headlines.

So we’re switching to “down” style for the time being. We reserve the right to change our mind.

Just deal with it, or comment below to give your point of view.

Obama says drill – but knows Sierra Club will fight

August 5, 2008

Powerline has a nice wrap-up concerning Obama’s two-faced approach to drilling for more oil and natural gas here in the States. Even though he’s now preaching that we should consider drilling offshore and open more leases in Alaska – not ANWAR – he knows that environmentalists will go to court to block every move to actually drill.

By playing both sides of the coin, he gives the impression that he cares about energy costs; and even though the oil companies can drill, they are not drilling. Squarely putting the blame back on Big Oil even though it’s not their fault.

He is not explaining why the oil companies are not drilling. Read more
